# Paintbox 95

> Paintbox 95 is a free retro paint program that runs in the web browser, with an AI mode: type an idea and Claude, the AI made by Anthropic, plans a picture and paints it stroke by stroke with the same pixel tools a person uses. Paintings can be saved as PNG files or shared to a public gallery. Designed and built by The Resonance (https://theresonance.studio).

Paintbox 95 brings back the simple paint programs that came with every computer in the 1990s: jagged pixels, 28 loud colors, an airbrush and a fill bucket, on a 640 × 400 canvas. It needs no account and works on computers, tablets and phones. It is an independent fan tribute and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Microsoft.

## What it does

- 11 classic tools: pencil, brush, airbrush, fill bucket, eraser, color picker, line, rectangle, ellipse, polygon and text
- AI painting: describe a picture in up to 200 characters; Claude plans it as a list of drawing operations (fills, shapes, strokes, airbrush, text) and the app paints them one by one
- Add on top: the AI can paint new things over the picture already on the canvas
- Save as PNG, undo and redo, full screen, keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Y, Ctrl+S, Shift for perfect circles)
- Share to the gallery: a painting gets its own link; it can stay private (only people with the link) or join the public wall
- Remix: open any gallery painting in the paint program and keep drawing

## For AI agents

- The app is one page that needs JavaScript. This file, /llms-full.txt and a short description in each page's HTML say what it is in plain text.
- Public data, read only: `GET https://paintbox-95.vercel.app/api/gallery` returns the public gallery as JSON (`{ items: [{ id, title, author, image_url, created_at, url }], next_cursor }`; pass `?cursor=` for the next page). `GET /api/gallery/{id}` returns one painting.
- Please don't call `/api/paint`: it only accepts requests from the site's own pages, is rate limited, and every request costs money.
